As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month, Timika Goodson stands out as the Founder and CEO of Diverse Health, a virtual healthcare provider focused on meeting the unique needs of underserved communities. With personal experience shaping her perspective, Timika has built a team of over 50 clinicians across more than 30 states, all committed to offering primary care and mental health support that respects each patient’s cultural background. Her leadership is helping to redefine access and equity in healthcare for thousands nationwide.
When asked how she defines success, Timika’s response is rooted in purpose over prestige: “Success means creating impact that lasts. For me, it’s not just about numbers—it’s about knowing that patients feel seen, heard, and healthier because of something I built.”
Her approach to business leadership is inspired by powerful trailblazers who’ve paved the way for women of color. “I admire women like Fawn Weaver, Rosalind Brewer, and Michelle Obama—each of them exemplifies grace, strategy, resilience, and purpose-driven leadership. They’ve broken barriers and uplifted others while remaining grounded in who they are.”
Timika’s journey with Diverse Health began humbly—with just one provider. Today, she’s built a thriving network of more than 50 clinicians operating in over 30 states. All of this was achieved without outside funding. “Launching Diverse Health with one provider and growing it to 50+ clinicians across 30+ states—while staying profitable and bootstrapped—is something I’m deeply proud of.”
One of the cornerstones of Diverse Health is ensuring care is both accessible and culturally responsive. “We train our providers in cultural humility, build diverse clinical teams, and design tech that meets people where they are—whether that’s in English, Spanish, or through a mobile-first experience.”
The impact has been measurable and meaningful. “We’ve helped patients who previously avoided care re-engage in their health. We’ve reduced ER visits, stabilized mental health symptoms, and built long-term provider relationships based on trust and understanding.”
That trust, especially in virtual healthcare, is hard-won—but not impossible. “We listen first. We show up consistently and we hire providers who reflect the communities they serve. Trust is built when care feels personal, not clinical.”
In a time where health disparities remain stubbornly persistent, Timika Goodson is proving that a new model is not only possible—it’s already working.
