Harvard University announced today a groundbreaking expansion of its financial aid program, making tuition free for students from families earning $200,000 or less annually, starting with the 2025–26 academic year. This bold move is set to significantly increase access to one of the world’s most prestigious institutions, with approximately 86% of U.S. families now eligible for financial aid under the new policy.
For students from families with household incomes under $100,000, the benefits go even further. Harvard will cover all billed expenses, including tuition, food, housing, health insurance, and travel costs. Additionally, these students will receive a $2,000 start-up grant in their first year and a $2,000 launch grant during their junior year to help with their transition after graduation.
Harvard’s expansion of financial aid reflects a broader effort to increase socioeconomic diversity and make higher education more accessible to talented students from all backgrounds. The new policy reinforces Harvard’s commitment to ensuring that financial barriers do not stand in the way of academic excellence and opportunity.
