Whether she’s addressing trauma, supporting the LGBTQ+ community, or helping clients embrace gratitude, Dr. Sasha’s approach is deeply rooted in empathy and the belief that no two healing journeys are the same. With nearly ten books under her belt and a consulting firm that equips individuals and communities with transformative resources, she continues to inspire change—one conversation, one lesson, and one breakthrough at a time.

FEMI: Your work encompasses a wide range of mental health advocacy, from addressing trauma to supporting the LGBTQ+ community. What initially inspired you to dedicate your career to these areas, and how has your personal journey influenced your professional mission?
Dr. Sasha: My personal journey has been deeply influenced by my own experiences with mental health and trauma. These challenges shaped my life and fueled my desire to understand the complexities of the mind. I realized that not everyone is the same; each individual requires a tailored approach to healing. There’s no one-size-fits-all plan. My mission is to honor these differences and help others navigate their unique paths to wellness.
FEMI: As an author of nearly ten books focusing on resilience, gratitude, and mental well-being, what message do you hope readers take away from your work? Can you share a particularly transformative moment or story from your writing journey?
Dr. Sasha: In Ghetto Serenity, particularly Chapter 5, I reflect on themes of misunderstanding and acceptance. Watching Gen-V, I saw a character with fire powers who was shunned simply for being different. It struck me how society often judges others at face value, without taking the time to truly understand them. This inspired me to advocate for embracing differences and celebrating the unique qualities that make us who we are.
FEMI: Through Inside and Out Consulting, LLC, you’re providing resources to help individuals and communities thrive. What unique challenges do you encounter in your consulting work, and how do you approach creating solutions tailored to diverse audiences?
Dr. Sasha: One of the most significant challenges I’ve faced with clients is helping them develop self-efficacy and gratitude. To tackle this, I believe in direct honesty. Some therapists might avoid tough conversations, but I prefer to get straight to the root of the problem. Together, we explore self-help books and engage in meaningful activities that foster growth and resilience.
FEMI: In your role as an adjunct professor at Yorkville and CalSouthern Universities, you’re shaping the next generation of mental health professionals. How do you balance teaching, writing, and consulting, and what advice do you give to your students about making a lasting impact in the field?
Dr. Sasha: I balance my responsibilities by maintaining a well-structured schedule, practicing excellent time management, and relying on a strong, supportive team. My advice to students is this: always remain teachable. A fixed mindset can leave you stuck while the world keeps evolving around you. Staying open to learning ensures you’re always growing alongside the world.

FEMI: Your advocacy work aligns closely with FEMI Magazine’s mission of empowerment and uplifting voices. What advice would you give to readers who are navigating their own mental health journeys, particularly during times of transition or hardship?
Dr. Sasha: When people face tough times, I remind them that after the rain, there’s always sunshine. Hardship gives us a deeper appreciation for the good moments in life. Without challenges, we wouldn’t truly understand joy. Use your pain as a stepping stone to grow and, ultimately, glow.
FEMI: Your dedication to fostering resilience and self-care is inspiring. How do you personally maintain balance and well-being while managing such a multifaceted career, and what are your go-to practices for self-care and mindfulness?
Dr. Sasha: Recently, I’ve started prioritizing reading again. There’s something so peaceful about picking up a book and simply enjoying the day. I also protect my alone time — it’s crucial for preventing burnout. Taking time for yourself isn’t selfish; it’s necessary. As a community, we often forget the importance of slowing down and reconnecting with ourselves.
Dr. Sasha’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, self-awareness, and the willingness to embrace growth. From the pages of her books to the classrooms where she mentors future mental health professionals, her mission remains steadfast: to empower others to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and authenticity. Through honesty, advocacy, and an unwavering commitment to personal and professional balance, she reminds us all that healing is not linear, but it is always possible. As she continues to uplift others, her message is clear—through adversity, we find strength, and through understanding, we build a more compassionate world.
