The Prague Influence: Crafting Unique Stories

Ashley’s creative journey took a significant leap during her studies at the Prague Institute. Reflecting on her time abroad, she shares, “Living in Prague was an unforgettable experience. It was a culture shock at first, but it laid the foundation for my storytelling approach.”

Her time in Prague provided her with a deep appreciation for the history and evolution of film. “The process taught me that every writer and filmmaker develops their own method. For me, it’s about organization—outlining and refining the story before the script even begins.” This meticulous approach has become Ashley’s hallmark, ensuring her work resonates deeply with audiences.

Versatility in Acting: Building Diverse Characters

Ashley’s ability to adapt to varied roles has become one of her defining strengths. From Too Close to Home to The Baker and the Beauty, she approaches each character with a meticulous process.

“When I book a new role, I read the script multiple times—first as an audience member, then breaking it into units to understand the character’s journey. The last thing I worry about is learning the lines. By the time I’ve done my prep, the lines flow naturally.”

Directorial Debut: The Heart of Glaciers

Ashley’s transition to directing and producing came naturally with the short film Glaciers, a poignant depiction of a veteran’s reintegration journey. The story resonated deeply with Ashley due to her father’s military background.

“The trauma veterans endure is often overlooked,” she explains. “After reading the script, I felt a special connection. I pitched myself as the director because I believed my perspective could enhance the story.”

Co-directing Glaciers was a challenging yet rewarding experience, showcasing Ashley’s ability to wear multiple hats while delivering an authentic narrative.

Pageantry and Perseverance: From Miss North Carolina USA to Miss USA

Ashley’s journey in pageantry prepared her for the competitive entertainment industry. After multiple attempts, she won the title of Miss North Carolina USA, becoming only the fifth Black woman to do so in the state’s history.

“Pageantry requires dedication and resilience—qualities essential in acting as well. Winning taught me that hard work and faith can overcome any obstacle,” she says.
