Bernadette’s journey from hairstylist to entrepreneur is nothing short of inspiring. Armed with a passion for hair care and the knowledge gained from business classes in Charlotte under the guidance of Mr. Dudley Sr., she took a bold leap into entrepreneurship. Now the proud owner of The Dream Team Hair & Beauty salon and the CEO of a thriving hair care product line, Bernadette has turned her dream into a reality. Her commitment to collaboration, innovative products, and empowering others in the beauty industry has solidified her place as a trailblazer in her field.
FEMI: What inspired you to take the leap from hairstylist to entrepreneur, and how has your journey shaped the vision behind your product line?
Bernadette: I always wanted to own my own hair salon business. I took business classes in Charlotte NC with Mr. Dudley Sr. The classes were very informative and gave me the confidence to establish my own brand. I loved the Dudley program so much that I became a Distributor for the company selling Dudley hair products to salons and barber shops. I used the experience I gained within that company and incorporated it into my own brand. Now, I’m a hair salon owner at The Dream Team Hair & Beauty and the CEO/ Founder of The Dream Team Hair & Beauty Professional Hair Products.
FEMI: Your product line addresses a variety of hair care needs with innovative solutions. Which product are you most proud of, and how does it reflect your dedication to thoughtful hair care?
Bernadette: I love all the products because everybody has different hair needs. I have products that are great for damaged hair, lack of moisture, color treatment, etc… I’m dedicated to hair care because I have a lot of clients that come to the salon to let me know how The Dream Team Hair & Beauty Professional Hair Products helped their hair to grow and how it thickened up their hair as well.
FEMI: Collaboration over competition is a cornerstone of your philosophy. How do you actively foster unity within the beauty industry, and why is this so important to you?
Bernadette: I’ve done an event called The Dream Team Hair & Beauty Pop Up Entertainment Shop Anniversary. I had vendors and artists and I also did a hairshow to show off my hairstyles using The Dream Team Hair & Beauty Professional Hair Products. The purpose of the event was to celebrate The Dream Team Hair & Beauty Line and support other businesses and artists that participated. The next event is going to include other stylists and barbers. I believe we all can make it a lot further when we help and support one another.
FEMI: Maintaining healthy hair and confidence often go hand in hand. What are three simple beauty tips you would share with readers to enhance their hair care routines and self-esteem?
Bernadette:
● First, I would make sure you choose products specifically for your hair type to enhance your hair and make it look healthier.
● Find a nice protective hairstyle to prevent heat damage which causes breakage.
● Wrap your hair with the right hair scarf, bonnets, skull caps, etc… Silk is the best material.
● Finally, healthy hair can and will boost self-esteem because it can make you feel more attractive and confident.
FEMI: As an entrepreneur, what challenges have you faced while building your brand, and how have those experiences fueled your growth and creativity?
Bernadette: People told me that I’m not going to make it as a business owner and said other evil things to me to try to discourage me. I used all the evil things they said and tried to do to me and used it as fuel to build my brand. I stayed focused on what I want to do without the negative opinions of others. As a successful business owner I have a huge clientele that’s loyal and I’ve added more products to The Dream Team Hair & Beauty Line.
FEMI: Looking ahead, what’s next for your brand, and how do you hope to continue empowering the beauty industry and inspiring confidence in others?
Bernadette: In 2025 I’m going to open another hair salon in a different city located in Charlotte, North Carolina. Jennifer McDonald is going to be the manager at the new location. She has supervisor experience and is ready to go. Opportunities for employment will be posted on Indeed!
