Jae Henderson delivers laughs like a fireworks show—unexpected, explosive, and impossible to ignore. The Memphis native has been lighting up comedy stages across Tennessee, Arkansas, Georgia, Michigan, and the East Coast, leaving audiences in stitches at iconic venues like Jimmy Kimmel’s Comedy Club and Drai’s Comedy Club in Las Vegas. She’s performed alongside comedic heavyweights like Shang, FunnyMan Prescott, Henry Coleman, Tony Tone, and Gerald Kelly, and her sharp wit was honed as a contributing writer for the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show.
In a male-dominated industry, Jae has made her mark by transforming relatable, everyday experiences into hilarious punchlines. Whether she’s riffing on relationships, aging, or church life, her comedy resonates deeply with audiences. “Comedy takes everyday occurrences and finds the funny in them,” she explains. “Audiences like when comics can be real, and I’m too old to be fake. Let me tell it like it is and give people a good laugh about it.”
The Start of a Journey
Jae’s comedy career began with a leap of faith. She joined the Women in Comedy Bootcamp led by seasoned comedian LaToya Tennille, owner of Memphis’ Comedy Junt Comedy Club. “I knew I could write jokes, but I was curious to see if I could deliver them on stage,” Jae recalls. The camp taught her the art of crafting and delivering jokes, culminating in a live comedy show. “I did well, and afterward, LaToya encouraged me to keep going. Comedy is a male-dominated field, and we need more female comedians. I took her advice, and I’ve been having a lot of fun!”
Relatable Comedy for Every Audience
Jae’s material draws heavily from her life. Raised in church and now navigating married life in her 40s, she brings a wealth of experiences to the stage. “I’m learning how to maneuver as a wife after being single for soooo long. All of that works for great material that audiences can relate to.” Her jokes about church, aging, and relationships resonate because they reflect universal truths. “Comedy is about being real. People laugh because they’ve been there too.”
Memorable Performances
When asked about her most unforgettable performances, Jae highlights several milestones. Her first major show was at Chuckles Comedy House in Memphis, where her friends and family came out in full support. But performing in Las Vegas at Jimmy Kimmel’s Comedy Club for the Kenan Thompson Presents series was a game-changer. “To do a show associated with Kenan Thompson of Kenan & Kel and SNL was an honor. They had my picture blown up behind me on a huge screen! It solidified for me that I can do this on another level if I work hard enough.”
Another standout moment came when she performed at Drai’s Comedy Club with veteran comedian Shang. “He was very kind and told me I did well. It’s a performance I’ll remember for years to come.”
A Multi-Talented Creator
In addition to comedy, Jae is an accomplished author with 11 books and a seasoned voiceover artist. She sees these creative outlets as complementary to her comedy. “Writing well and speaking well are required in comedy. My background in radio, marketing, and public relations has also opened doors for me early in my career. I’m very blessed to have a network of people rooting for my success.”
The Power of Laughter
Jae’s ultimate goal is to uplift and inspire her audiences. “Comedy shows are an escape from reality. For an hour or more, you get to forget about what’s going on at home or work and just laugh. Laughter helps fight sadness, anxiety, and depression. I’m happy to be someone’s temporary relief from life’s challenges.”
As Jae continues to rise in the comedy world, her message is clear: laughter isn’t just entertainment—it’s therapy, connection, and joy. And she’s here to deliver it, one punchline at a time.
