Baltimore, MD – The Wrapped in Hope Holiday Event, hosted by PHA Healthcare on December 13, 2024, was a success, showcasing the power of community, resilience, and recovery. Attended by several dignitaries, local leaders, and community advocates, the event left an indelible mark on Baltimore.

One of the highlights of the day was the presence of Nick Cannon, who warmly engaged with attendees and posed for photos. Cannon’s visit brought joy to the room and reinforced the event’s mission of healing and hope. Nick was presented with a citation on behalf of the State of Maryland in recognition of his work in mental health advocacy and his dedication to second chances. Senator Augustine, a champion of mental health legislation, has been instrumental in advancing laws to improve access to mental health care for minors in Maryland.

The Making Change Blanket Workshop was led by CJ Matthews (17) and his younger brother Kollin Matthews (8), founders of Blankies 4 My Buddies, in partnership with the Let’s Just Breathe Foundation. The hands-on activity, part of the award-winning Blanket Box Project, inspired participants to embrace hope and creativity in their healing journeys.

The event also marked the successful launch of PHA Healthcare president Steve Thomas’s highly anticipated podcast, The Recovery Whisperer. The live recording featured a stellar lineup of high-profile guests:

• Nick Cannon, who courageously opened up about his recent mental health diagnosis to help others.

• Shontel Greene, a Baltimore legend who shared her remarkable comeback story, on how she rose from the streets to the suites as the multimillion-dollar owner of one of the largest mental health companies in Maryland. Her transformation has been featured in Black Enterprise, Forbes, and BET’s American Gangster: Trap Queens. Greene announced her two upcoming film releases during her interview.

• Dr. Yvette Morgan, whose inspiring work as an educator and youth advocate emphasized the importance of resilience and educational equity.

Thomas’s podcast launch was a major milestone, underscoring PHA Healthcare’s dedication to amplifying stories of recovery and fostering meaningful dialogue around healing.
