Tierra Barber’s journey from athletic director to successful entrepreneur is a testament to her faith, resilience, and unwavering dedication to creating a lasting legacy for her two children. After recently relocating to Houston, Barber made the bold decision to leave her position as a coach and athletic director to pursue her dream of becoming her own boss, founding B.Elevated Enterprises, a thriving business that includes B.Elevated Candle Co., B.Elevated Candle Bar, and B.Elevated On-The-Go.
Her inspiration to start this business stemmed from her personal passion for fragrance and the need to create a better quality, toxin-free candle for her youngest child, who has sensitivities to certain scents. What began as a home-based project has now evolved into a flourishing enterprise, with a successful storefront located in Houston’s prestigious River Oaks District. “It was like the Holy Spirit was saying, ‘If you want to be your own boss, then do it.’ So, I stepped out on faith and did,” Tierra shares.
Barber’s mission is clear: to create clean, safe, and high-quality candles that offer memorable, scent-driven experiences for families, friends, and couples. Her products are not only inspired by her personal experience but also driven by a desire to serve others who may face similar sensitivities. “Hearing the testimonies from people who have made candles with us and how they have no issues with their candles after having them their whole lives is so humbling,” she explains.
Despite the challenges that come with both motherhood and entrepreneurship, Tierra has found ways to balance her demanding schedule with creating a legacy for her children. She prioritizes her faith, starting each day with devotion and prayer, followed by organizing her business around her children’s needs and activities. Her oldest daughter even helps out at the store, learning the ins and outs of the business.
Faith has been at the core of Tierra’s success. Facing difficult personal circumstances, she has relied on her trust in God to navigate the ups and downs of life and business. “Right now, I am in the most difficult time I’ve ever experienced in my life. These circumstances have forced me to have no choice but to call on God and grow deeper in my faith,” she shares. This deep spiritual grounding has helped her turn challenges into blessings, allowing her business to thrive in unexpected ways.
Looking toward the future, Tierra is excited about the growth potential for B.Elevated Enterprises. “We are definitely looking towards the future and planning on evolving by adding other aspects to our brand outside of candles but still related,” she says. With her faith, passion, and work ethic as her guiding forces, Tierra Barber is on a mission to elevate her business, her life, and the lives of others.
