Fans of the iconic TV show “Martin” would undoubtedly relish the idea of a prequel series delving into the early years of their favorite characters. A prequel would offer a captivating glimpse into the formative experiences and relationships that shaped Martin Payne, Gina Waters, Tommy Strawn, and Pam James before the events of the original series. It could explore Martin’s early days as a radio DJ, Gina’s career ambitions, Tommy’s mysterious background, and Pam’s fiery personality, adding depth and context to their dynamics. Moreover, fans would revel in the opportunity to witness the origins of Martin’s hilarious antics and the evolution of his infamous relationship with Gina, shedding light on their shared history and deepening their appreciation for the beloved characters they grew to love over the years.

Well, guess what Martin fans? A prequel is in the works now! According to Deadline, “the beloved comedy is now looking for a more permanent return with Young Martin, a new hourlong drama series from Martin Lawrence and his production company, RunTelDat, in collaboration with Marvin Peart‘s WonderHill Studios.”

“Set in modern-day Detroit, Young Martin follows Martin Payne, a spirited teenager whose journey is characterized by ambition, humor, and a genuine compassion for those around him. The show will explore themes of family, friendship and life while the young Payne balances on the tightrope between adolescence and adulthood. Martin’s quick wit and magnetic personality draw him into high-stakes situations, where he must confront obstacles, emotions, and ultimately, find his path to success.”

This is extremely exciting and we can’t wait to see who will play Young Martin!
