Women artists have long been integral contributors to the cultural landscape, their creative expressions shaping narratives, challenging conventions, and illuminating diverse perspectives. Women artists have navigated through societal constraints to carve out spaces for their voices to be heard and their visions to be seen. Their works reflect not only individual experiences but also broader societal movements, offering powerful insights into gender, identity, and the human condition. Despite historical obstacles and systemic biases, women artists continue to inspire, provoke, and reshape the artistic landscape, leaving an indelible mark on the canvas of history.
Allow us to introduce you to an artist who is destined to leave an impact on the art community, her name is Blessing and online she goes by the name Nyra Art. She is from Accra, Ghana and her work deserves much attention and recognition.
What inspired your love for art?
I was born an artist, in fact as a child I was always playing around drawing in the sand, on the black board in school or molding using clay. I use to help my primary classmates with anything having to do with art sketching. I fell in love with the fashion world before my teen years, always watching fashion shows on TV and creating my own designs for my doll with just needles, thread and cloth.
My dream was to become a big fashion designer then, not an artist. I wanted to see stars like Rihanna wearing my designs, From 2012 I started creating a book for my designs and I always write the date on which I drew then and also I don’t repeat designs I draw.
I felt this is what God wanted me to be. So in 2017 I got the chance to enroll in a fashion school for a one year certificate where I learned how to sew. Yet while in the school I was making little time for drawing. In 2019 I was home doing nothing so I started with the drawing and was posting on social media in like 2020.
I found life was hard and I was trying to find a mean to survive. The art that I normally do for free became a way for me to make little income. Sometimes I got inspired but the environment around me made me doubt myself. I was seeing and hearing and listening to people telling me “you’ll get nothing with your art”. So I would wish they one day would get a different view of art.
It’s beautiful and beyond that beauty there is someones’ hard work and determination. I want them to know that beauty in the world is all about art in anything we do. Somehow someday I want my people to give more value to art, and see the beauty beyond what their eyes can see.
I want them to feel it and get inspired by it. Know that they are also a piece of art.
You shared with me you are from Ghana, what is the art life like there?
Here in Ghana I can say that not everyone is a fan of art, but mostly people love the view of it, but don’t know the value. Why? Because they will always complain about the price. That is actually a big deal here. They won’t consider your effort but we still find genius people who appreciate what we do. Just little.
It’s mostly foreigners who buy a lot. Others just like and enjoy the beauty of it. Ghana is actually full of craft and art ,that’s a blessing. There is art everywhere in Ghana.

What motivates you to keep working towards your goals?
I almost gave up several times, but I promised myself to keep on going and that someday something new could definitely happen to me. “The fact that I didn’t learn art and was already born with the fashion skill ‘spirit, when I fall and I get the chance to rise again I say this to myself “it’s never too late, you will get there keep pushing. God is by your side” God and my dreams are the reason why I keep pushing.
