What was the inspiration behind starting your women’s healthcare center?
My inspiration was rooted from Black maternal morbidity and mortality. BIPOC women often have their symptoms dismissed or their concerns are not addressed. I wanted to create a welcoming haven for women, dedicated to providing an exceptional health experience where every woman’s concerns are addressed.
What specific areas of women’s health do you focus on in your practice?
I focus on PCOS, irregular and painful periods, abnormal vaginal discharge, menopause, and preparing women for pregnancy.
How do you approach providing comprehensive care to women, considering both their physical and emotional well-being?
It begins by offering flexibility in scheduling, including the option for same-day appointments. We have established an environment where clients receive generous time for effective and attentive care. Our commitment is to reach out to each client, providing them with their test results, whether they bring positive or challenging news.
What are some common health concerns or issues that women face, and how do you address them in your practice?
Women encounter challenges such as irregular or painful periods, abnormal vaginal discharge, fibroids, and menopause, among others. We offer personalized care to address each of these concerns.
In your opinion, what are some of the biggest challenges or misconceptions surrounding women’s health, and how do you work to address them?
Among the significant hurdles are the misdiagnosis of specific conditions. Some prevalent misconceptions include the belief that women’s issues are solely psychological and that they should endure whatever challenges they are confronting. I strive to tackle each concern individually. Additionally, I urge women to schedule follow-ups, enabling me to monitor their progress and assess improvements.
Are there any specific initiatives or projects you are currently involved in to promote women’s health in the community?
I recently developed and instructed the inaugural class for the Maternal Health Program at Kingsborough Community College. I am eager to engage in additional community events to educate women about their health.
What advice would you give to women who may be hesitant or unsure about seeking healthcare for women’s health concerns?
I advise women to conduct thorough research when seeking a healthcare provider. Additionally, I encourage my clients to spread the word about their experiences at our practice by sharing with friends.
