New York,\u00a0NY \u2013 <\/strong>New Jersey-based\u00a0singer-songwriter Penelope (Shanice Robinson) releases her new single \u201cBody Keeps The Score\u201d Off the upcoming soundtrack for Bruce Willis\u2019 final film \u201cAssassin\u201d released earlier this year from Saban Films. This new single follows Penelope\u2019s 2022 hit single \u201cHonest\u201d as well as her collaboration with rapper Mr. HUBB on the single \u201cLegacy\u201d which has seen a great response from fans and press alike. This single follows the success of Penelope\u2019s<\/strong> 2021 EP Stages Of Grief<\/em> which set the stage for what to expect from this talented singer-songwriter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While some of her music can be categorically labeled R&B, the unapologetic soul and message of her songwriting can speak to anyone. The messages of Penelope\u2019s music touch on a range of personal topics surrounding mental health, including infidelity, abuse, and more, creating meaningful songs that not only help her process events in her life but can also become beacons of hope for others facing the same struggles. Her music is real, and so is she, Penelope<\/strong> keeps her mission clear. \u201cI feel like my life\u2019s work is getting young people to know and understand that some of us have mental health issues that we aren\u2019t addressing properly,\u201d she advises. \u201cAnd through my music, I want people to know, that it\u2019s okay not to be \u2018normal.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked about her latest single, Penelope<\/strong> said, \u201cBody Keeps The Score\u2019 speaks volumes on how men suffer in silence. This was my piece to a person that I love letting them know that I was there. So often men don\u2019t want anyone to know that they\u2019re struggling internally. I made it so that he\u2019d know he could come to me to express emotions, and it wouldn\u2019t be held against him or thrown up later. I see you, I love you & I\u2019m here. With no expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana,\u00a0Penelope<\/strong>\u00a0had the music within her from a young age, singing in church at just five years old. She later relocated with her family to Stockbridge, Georgia,\u00a0outside of Atlanta,\u00a0where she attended middle school.\u00a0Penelope\u00a0<\/strong>ran\u00a0<\/strong>track and was a cheerleader, athletically excelling as the highest toe touch on her cheerleading squad and being named the fastest female runner in her state.\u00a0While\u00a0Penelope\u00a0was a model athlete, she was an introvert who struggled with making friends and often found herself in trouble in high school\u2014getting into fights, where she felt like she couldn\u2019t contain her rage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her anger was compounded by depression, leading to debilitating chronic migraines. She attempted suicide three times in her teenage years and thankfully failed.\u00a0She started writing poetry as a means to channel her emotions, though making music wasn\u2019t too far in the distance.\u00a0Penelope\u00a0enrolled in college, majoring in medicine, but two life-altering events led to her temporarily leaving. One was a vicious assault, and the other was the birth of her daughter. \u201cMy daughter became my reason to succeed at everything I did,\u201d she explains.\u00a0Penelope\u00a0started writing songs and roughly recording music over the years, unsure and unconfident about bringing it into the world. She finally decided to actively pursue music in 2018, cutting her first track and releasing it in 2019. \u201cI loved\u00a0Penelope\u00a0Garcia on CBS\u2019s\u00a0Criminal Minds, so I started recording under the name\u00a0Penelope,\u201d she says of her moniker\u2019s origin. However, it became much more than that. Much like Beyonc\u00e9 with Sasha Fierce or Clark Kent with Superman, Penelope marked a transformation and a place to go where her insecurities and inhibitions were left at the door. Now,\u00a0after recently signing with\u00a0ThatHUBBLife ENT, a socially responsible, entertainment records\u00a0label,\u00a0Penelope\u00a0is geared for stardom, making music with a message and real substance.
