Mental health and wellness is important. Sometimes one can suffer from depression and not even be aware. In an era of competition and comparison, it can be easy to slip into what some refer to as “a dark place”. Recently FEMI Magazine sat down with Winnie Chan Wang who is a mindfulness and traditional medicine expert, international speaker, bestselling author, and professor in acupuncture at the Alhambra Medical University.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

FEMI Magazine: All of the different types of medical fields to be involved with, how did you come to choose acupuncture?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winnie Chang Wang: I consider myself a conduit for compassion and transformation, integrating both science and spirituality. My passion lies in teaching people how to release trauma from their bodies and embrace wellness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I love most about acupuncture is its ability to restore the body into balance. Most illnesses in the mental, emotional, and physical body are due to energy blockages. There is very little risk in acupuncture, and malpractice insurance is very low because mistreatment is very rare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FEMI Magazine: What do you feel is one of the biggest misconceptions about acupuncture?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winnie Chang Wang: Many people have misconceptions about acupuncture, but that can\u2019t be further from the truth! The needles we use for vaccines and IVs are thicker because they need to allow liquid to pass through. However, acupuncture needles are incredibly thin, as fine as a strand of hair. You’ll hardly feel them as they gently stimulate your body’s healing energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, acupuncture is a little bit like dating or finding a job. That means every acupuncturist isn\u2019t for everyone! Be open to experimenting with a few therapists. It may take time before you find \u201cthe one,\u201d and that\u2019s okay!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
