\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0What inspired you to get into law enforcement?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I was inspired to pursue a career in law enforcement because I have a desire to right the wrongs of the world. I am a person who was traumatized by abuse, racism, and poverty. I grew wanting to shield people from pain. I viewed law enforcement as a way to help others. Helping others brings me joy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0You seem to be accustomed to being the first in things (First to get a college degree in your family and the first black woman deputy commissioner of Pennsylvania) how does it feel?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n It feels good to achieve milestones.\u00a0 It also feels like unfinished business.\u00a0 It\u2019s 2021. It\u2019s taken 116 years to become the first black female deputy commissioner.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n Did you envision yourself in the role?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Yes. I\u2019ve always envisioned myself as being a competent leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What do you hope to bring to the position?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I will always look at my position with the mindset of keeping the community and our employees safe. I want to give the perspective of those who haven\u2019t always felt heard in the agency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n What advice will you give to young people?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Don\u2019t turn your back on a career in law enforcement. We need your perspective to evolve. Believe in yourself when no one else does.
