Shirley Chisolm is the first Black congresswoman in the country and the first Black woman to run for President in 1972. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Chisolm is known for her impactful work in the community and her innovation. In this biopic Regina will be featured in the movie as well as a co-producer alongside her sister, Reina King.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
John Ridley is set to direct the film and is excited with Regina\u2019s passion to tell the story of a phenomenal woman. \u201cRegina\u2019s passion for bringing a complete and very human portrait of Shirley to life has been evident since literally the day we first met.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project titled, “Shirley”, is not the first movie about Shirley Chisolm. Prior to this project, another Shirley Chisolm movie is in the works entitled, The Fighting Shirley Chisolm, which is set to be starring Viola Davis and directed by Danai Gurira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
