Do it for the culture! Universals hit The Best Man <\/em>movie franchise is being made into a streaming series. Peacock and the movie\u2019s writer and director Malcolm D. Lee as well as former Insecure<\/em> executive producer Dayna Lynne North has pressed play on a 10- episode limited drama series called The Best Man: The Final Chapters<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The original cast will be returning which will include: Morris Chestnut, Melissa De Sousa, Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrance Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, and Harold Perrineau. Unfortunately Monica Calhoun will not be returning whose character died in the sequel The Best Man Holiday<\/em>. This movie was released over 5 years ago and each actor will receive considerable seven-figure deals to return to their roles in the series, which is set to start in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming had this to say, \u201cWe\u2019re excited to reunite this beloved cast for a limited series run of <\/em>The Best Man<\/em> for Peacock\u201d.<\/em> She added, \u201cWith a powerhouse duo like Malcolm and Dayna at the helm, fans will fall in love with our favorite group of friends all over again<\/em>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHere we go! The band is back together\u201d<\/em>! Said Lee, \u201cI am very excited to bring these iconic characters back to the fans who have supported us through this franchise,\u201d<\/em> Lee added, \u201cWe are thrilled to deliver everything one would expect from this group of friends in The Best Man<\/em> universe and take them through their final chapters. We can\u2019t wait! I told you it wouldn\u2019t be 14 more years.\u201d<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Best Man\u00a0films were a cultural touchstone during my college days \u2014 and they\u2019ve remained influential pop culture references to this day,\u201d<\/em> said North, a new addition to the creative team in The Best Man franchise. \u201cI\u2019ve grown up laughing with these characters, copying their dance moves, and grieving at their losses. I am overjoyed to be partnering with Malcolm D. Lee and this amazing cast to adapt this iconic franchise at Peacock.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first film which debuted in 1999, romantic comedy-drama movie which was produced by Spike Lee. The storyline includes old college friends reunite for a wedding, followed by a Christmas-themed sequel, The Best Man Holiday,<\/em> released in November 2013. Both films were box office hits. The first film grossed $34 million domestically on a $9 million budget and the 2013 follow up film earned $70 million. A third film in the series, The Best Man Wedding<\/em>, also written and to be directed by Lee, was announced by Universal in 2014 with a planned release in 2016, but it was never made because of scheduling issues.  Last year Diggs exposed a third movie in The Best Man<\/em> franchise may be happening but as a streaming series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
