The Boston Red Sox announced on Monday that they have hired Smith for a minor league team. I am extremely excited and proud to see black woman making moves in industries and fields we have yet to get to. Please do not get it confused. She knows her stuff and has the background in the game that led her to receive this position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Smith is currently the assistant coach and hitting coordinator at Carroll University in Wisconsin. She previously served as an athletics compliance assistant at Case Western Reserve University. Smith also interned previously with the Texas Rangers and worked as a baseball operations trainee with the Cincinnati Reds,\u00a0according to her LinkedIn profile. She earned a J.D. in sports law at Case Western Reserve, where she also received a master\u2019s in business administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe opportunity is amazing,\u201d Smith said in an interview on MLB Network\u2019s Hot Stove program on Monday. \u201cI\u2019m still wrapping my head around it. I probably won\u2019t really have it sink in until I\u2019m actually there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I think it\u2019s a great opportunity also to kind of inspire other women who are interested in this game. This is not really something I thought about it when I was younger. I kind of fell into it being an athlete. So I\u2019m excited to get that chance to show what I can do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
