Anonka\u2019s journey to creating her label was born out of her own experiences as a woman in the music business. \u201cAgainst All Odds was inspired by my trials and tribulations,\u201d she shares. Recognizing the systemic barriers and double standards faced by women, especially Black women, she was determined to make a difference. \u201cI decided to build my own table of good business people so there would be more of us in the business.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, her label focuses on mentoring emerging artists and producing future moguls. From the Field to the Studio: Lessons from the LFL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Before stepping into the music industry, Anonka was a quarterback in the Legends Football League (LFL), a role that prepared her for the challenges of leadership, branding, and negotiation. \u201cBeing a quarterback taught me that I was a walking billboard,\u201d she says, noting the importance of representing her brand at all times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The competitive nature of sports also gave her a strategic edge in negotiations. \u201cI would rather have a small piece of a huge pie than a large piece of a small pie,\u201d she shares, reflecting her collaborative and pragmatic approach to business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Elevating Talent and Breaking Barriers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Anonka\u2019s work with artists like Tracy Supreme, Official D\u2019 Angel, and Big Arie demonstrates her commitment to creating sustainable, impactful careers. Her strategy? Tailoring her approach to each artist\u2019s vision and goals. \u201cWe come up with a plan together and execute it,\u201d she says, emphasizing teamwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Her process for identifying talent is rooted in intuition and vision. \u201cI see things in people they don\u2019t see in themselves,\u201d she explains.
