1.     How did you discover your passion to become a Brand Style Curator?

My passion to become a Brand Style Curator actually found me, not the other way around. See, I started out in my business journey as a boutique owner, then a wardrobe stylist. The brand consulting and strategizing firm came last. It was a natural progression because so many people would come to me for business advice in many industries. I was always well-versed in style, business, and creative direction and I decided to marry them together. I’m more than a boutique owner. I’m more than a brand strategist. I’m more than a wardrobe stylist. So, I created what I had never seen before: THE Brand Style Curator. I became very passionate about helping others to identify, enhance, and portray their signature brand style statement to the world and I didn’t look back. The passion became a purpose that transformed into a profitable 7 figure and counting brand.

2.     How do you feel when you see people transform their lives and have the life that they actually want through your consulting?

Seeing people transform their lives via my consulting is an ecstatic proud feeling that will never get old. A lot of what we see today in the marketplace is a lot of people taking notes, but not a lot of people taking action. I always say that knowledge is not the power people have always said it is. The implementation of knowledge is where the power lies. When people take the knowledge they get from me and apply it in their lives, it makes me so ecstatic to see them winning. I’m nothing without the amazing results of those who learn from me. This is my mantra: If I help one person change their life, or change their family lives. When they change their families’ lives, the communities change. When the communities change, the world is impacted. Therefore, I can impact and change the world just by elevating ONE person.

3.     You’re wearing a lot of hats being the CEO of JCHIC Life Style Brand, how are you able to balance all these different roles?

I’ve always heard people looking for a work-family-life balance. I wear a lot of hats as the CEO of my brand, but I never search for balance. When a scale is balanced, there is no movement. It’s almost like a plateau when you’ve reached a state of stillness. Instead, I pursue a harmonious flow. In this flow, the pieces of my work, family, self-care, and life flow together to bring about a state of living that could never be achieved with just a balance. Achieving that flow is done by delegating tasks, prioritizing my workflow, and making sure to always make time for me and my self-care. It also includes having a daily method of operations and standard operating procedures. I also do periodic SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analyses on my personal and business brands to see what adjustments need to be made.

4.     Looking back on when you first embarked on your journey as an entrepreneur, what is the first thing you would say to your past self if you were your own mentor and what is the primary resource you’d recommend to yourself that would’ve better assist you in starting your business?

The first things I’d want to say to my past self are: I see you. I understand you. I forgive you. I honor you. I love you. The reason why I would say these things is because most of the bad decisions I made in life were because I didn’t feel seen, understood, forgiven, or honored. I sought these feelings in so many self-destructive ways that even carried over to some of my business dealings. The primary resource that I would recommend to myself in starting my business is wise counsel. Whether a consultant, strategist or coach I’d definitely find them sooner than later to help me embark on the journey in a better way. Other resources that were helpful in starting my journey as an entrepreneur were my college degrees and almost 20 years in corporate America. I learned so much about business that I was able to apply in my own businesses.

5.     What has been your most effective marketing strategy to grow your business?

My most effective marketing strategy to grow my brand is definitely using my mouth. I use it in so many ways in my marketing from speaking engagements, networking events, pitch contests, live streams, interviews, podcasts, social media content, sales calls, and more. In the new age of everything going digital, sometimes people forget this time-tested marketing strategy. I’m always ready and available to talk about my brands and no one can do it better than me! I’ve mastered my ever-evolving marketing message and I’m always ready to share it with potential customers, clients, investors, and the like. I know my brands inside and out and am well-versed in how to tailor the marketing message depending on the current conversation I’m having whether online or in person.

6.     What were some of the ways you found support as you built your brand and how do you navigate utilizing the support given while at the same time maintaining your own power and self-reliance?

Whew, I love this question because it’s so loaded! Some ways I found support as I built my brand were probably unorthodox. First, I made sure I always gave the support that I wanted to receive back. It’s the law of reciprocity and it comes naturally. Another way that I found support is by surrounding myself with people who had things to lose and people who were already at or past where I’m going. When you elevate your surroundings, you elevate your life. It’s important to remember though that support is not always monetary. Sometimes the support I received was emotional or spiritual. Other times I was given the support of my name being mentioned in rooms I needed to be mentioned in and connections being made. I navigated utilizing this support and still managed to maintain my own power and self-reliance by becoming more self-aware. It’s important to remember that your light is not diminished by letting others’ light shine. This mindset allowed me to be able to bask in the support, all while being powerful and self-reliant in my own right.
